In western Peloponnese, in the so-called “valley of the gods”, Ancient Olympia grew to be the most celebrated sacred site of Ancient Greece, and the birthplace of the Olympic Games, the most important sports events in all antiquity: starting from 776 B.C., all Greeks – across the then known world – would be united every four years and all hostilities would be suspended so that everyone could take part in these games in the true spirit of sportsmanship. Olympia is now, as it used to be in the past, a famed destination, a powerful landmark known the world over.

Olympia (Modern Greek: Ολυμπία[oli(m)ˈbi.a]; Ancient Greek: Ὀλυμπία[olympí.aː]), officially Archaia Olympia (Greek: Αρχαία Ολυμπία lit. ’Ancient Olympia’), is a small town in Elis on the Peloponnese peninsula in Greece, famous for the nearby archaeological site of the same name. The site was a major Panhellenic religious sanctuary of ancient Greece, where the ancient Olympic Games were held every four years throughout Classical antiquity, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.[2] They were restored on a global basis in 1894 in honor of the ideal of peaceful international contention for excellence.

Άγιον Όρος:

Η Αυτόνομη Μοναστική Πολιτεία του Αγίου Όρους (συντ.: Άγιον Όρος) αποτελεί αυτοδιοίκητο τμήμα του Ελληνικού Κράτους, που βρίσκεται στη χερσόνησο του Άθω της Χαλκιδικής, στη Μακεδονία. Περιλαμβάνει τις είκοσι Ιερές Μονές, τα εξαρτήματά τους και διάφορα καταστήματα και υπηρεσίες. Το καθεστώς και ο τρόπος λειτουργίας του καθορίζονται με λεπτομερή τρόπο, παράλληλα προς το Σύνταγμα της Ελλάδας, με τον Καταστατικό Χάρτη του Αγίου Όρους (Κ.Χ.Α.Ο.) της 10ης Μαΐου 1924.

Mount Athos (/ˈæθɒs/; Greek: Ἄθως, [ˈa.θos]) is a mountain in the distal part of the eponymous Athos peninsula and site of an important centre of Eastern Orthodox monasticism in northeastern Greece. The mountain along with the respective part of the peninsula have been governed as the monastic community of Mount Athos, an autonomous region within the Hellenic Republic, ecclesiastically under the direct jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople. Mount Athos has been inhabited since ancient times and is known for its long Christian presence and historical monastic traditions, which date back to at least AD 800 and the Byzantine era.
